A Church Born from Crisis

The Inter-Communal Effect

Ibuluya/Dikibo-Ama is a prominent twin community comprising two war canoe houses of the Oputibeya extraction. The Church of God presently at Ibuluya/Dikibo-Ama emerged as an epiphenomenon resulting from the crisis of 1945 between Wakama-Ama and Egweme. This war initially enthroned a temporal period of spiritual lull amongst the residents.

However, the Spirit of God alighted on the minds of the men who had sought refuge. Recognizing the power of gathering for prayer, the nascent Christian community was encouraged in faith by the early pioneers. Initially, they worshipped within a prayer house set up located in Chief Dikibo’s compound.

Laying the Foundation

As the congregation blossomed, the prayer room in Chief Dikibo's house became far too small. In pursuit of spiritual leadership, the Parochial Church Committee (PCC) of St. Peter's Church, Okrika deployed a three-man delegation. By March 1955, T.O.G. Woke arrived to steer the young congregation.

August 13, 1955 marked a historic milestone for the local church—it was the day the foundation for a permanent sanctuary was formally laid. Driven by an insatiable hunger for the Gospel, the members resolutely supported the structure's rapid completion.

Rising to Headquarters

The dedication of the early members ensured that St. Paul's Church never became a mirage. Evolving through decades of growth, encroaching territorial challenges, and shifting congregational dynamics, the church's spiritual core stood impenetrable.

St. Paul's Church, Ibuluya/Dikibo-Ama achieved Parish Status in January 1996. Consistently proving to be a robust pillar within the Diocese of Okrika, it currently serves as the prestigious Headquarters for the entire Okrika Mainland Deanery.
