During the early days, the greatest number of parishioners attending the congregation in Osuo-Ogu were non-indigenes, and they deeply desired an official name for the church. To avoid offending members of other churches, and in keeping with the tradition, culture, and unity of the people, the Church was uniquely christened "All Souls Anglican Church".
This christening was performed by the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Revd. T. R. Abere, during a familiarization visit in May 2004, grafted beautifully from Ezekiel 18:4: "All Souls are mine, even the souls of the fathers are mine said the Lord of Host."
By September 2004, due to rapid growth, Bishop Abere saw the need for a resident priest, posting the Late Revd. Canon Cromwell A. Nonju to officially shepherd the flock. His presence, and the regular blessing of the Holy Eucharist, profoundly changed the outlook and numbers of the parishioners.
Love and Unity were common features exhibited by all the members, spurring Late Revd. Canon C. A. Nonju to give the church its famous slogan: "All Souls Family; We are one in Christ. All Souls Family; It is well with us."
In 2005, the church applied for an autonomous status. After a thorough verification of its infrastructures and the prompt construction of a belfry, it was officially pronounced a Parish Status on February 3, 2007.
